How To Use

Use on the scalp, the face, or both, wherever skin feels flaky, itchy, or irritated.

Scalp: Part the hair and apply directly to the affected areas. Massage in gently and leave on, ideally overnight, or for at least 30 minutes before washing.

Face: Apply a thin layer to clean skin on the affected areas and leave on. Use morning, night, or both.

How often: Daily while you're in a flare-up. Two to three times a week to keep skin calm once it settles.

First time: Patch test on a small area and wait 24 hours before regular use.

Be consistent.

This works by changing the conditions on your skin over time, not overnight, so give it a few steady weeks.

It’s Not Dry Skin. It’s Biology.

Your scalp is an ecosystem. Here's why flakes appear, and how to restore balance in 3 steps.

  • Trigger

  • Microbiome

  • Barrier

Step 1 - Balance

The Biology

Malassezia is a yeast that lives on everyone's scalp. It survives by feeding on sebum, your skin's natural oil, plus the fatty acids found in most shampoos, conditioners, and hair products. When that food is there, Malassezia multiplies and triggers the inflammation behind the itching, redness, and flaking.

The Solution

Every ingredient in Qalm is verified 100% Malassezia-safe, with no fatty acids it can feed on. Defenscalp™ goes further, regulating sebum to limit what Malassezia needs to survive, while soothing irritation and strengthening the scalp's barrier for long-lasting comfort.

Step 2 - nourish

The Biology

Like your gut, your scalp hosts a community of microscopic life, bacteria and fungi living in balance. In a healthy scalp, beneficial bacteria compete with Malassezia for space and resources, keeping it in check. When that balance is disrupted, Malassezia overgrows, and the inflammation that follows is what you see and feel.

The Solution

preBIULIN® FOS is a prebiotic that selectively feeds your beneficial bacteria. Think of it as fertilizer for the good guys, helping them crowd out Malassezia and restore the balance your scalp lost.

Step 3 - Support

The Biology

Your skin has a protective barrier, lipids and proteins that lock in moisture and keep irritants out. Over time, harsh ingredients like sulfates and alcohols wear it down. Moisture escapes, sensitivity rises, and the skin loses its ability to regulate itself. This is the layer most treatments never reach. They manage symptoms at the surface, but the reason those symptoms keep coming back lives here.

The Solution

Aquaxyl™ delivers deep hydration and locks it in, rebuilding the moisture your barrier has lost. Actibiome® calms inflammation and supports skin renewal. With niacinamide, panthenol, and urea, they don't just soothe your scalp, they rebuild a barrier that holds.

How We’re Different

Some treatments clear flare-ups. Qalm helps prevent them.

Antifungal Shampoos

Clears flaking and itching

Fewer flare-ups over time

Helps rebuild the skin barrier

Supports your scalp's microbiome

Gentle enough to use every day

Calm starts here, flaking fades, relief that stays

Title

Day  1-7

Calm starts here

Niacinamide and panthenol calm the redness and irritation that's already there, so the surface settles quickly. The deeper work on the microbiome and barrier takes longer.

Day  14

Flaking fades

By now Defenscalp has lowered the sebum Malassezia feeds on, so the yeast has less to live on and the flaking fades.

Day  30

Fewer flare-ups

preBIULIN feeds the beneficial bacteria on your scalp so they grow back and crowd Malassezia out, and flare-ups happen less often.

Day  60+

Relief that stays

With your barrier rebuilt and your microbiome back in balance, your scalp can hold its own. Flare-ups get milder and shorter, and steady maintenance keeps them that way.

Have questions?

How soon will I see results?

Most people notice reduced flakes and less redness within 2–3 weeks of regular use.

Is Barrier Serum safe for sensitive skin?

It's made for sensitive, reactive, easily-triggered skin: non-steroidal and formulated without many of the harsh actives that tend to sting or strip. Everyone's skin is different, though, so do a quick patch test first. Apply a small amount, wait 24 hours, and check before regular use.

Can I use it with other hair or scalp products?

Yes, but what those products contain matters. Malassezia feeds on the fatty acids and oils in many shampoos, conditioners, and stylers, so pairing Barrier Serum with products that feed the yeast can undercut it. For best results, keep the rest of your routine Malassezia-safe too: a Malassezia-safe shampoo on your scalp and a gentle, Malassezia-safe cleanser on your face. Mid-flare, simpler is better, Barrier Serum plus a Malassezia-safe wash is often enough.

Will it help with dandruff or just redness?

Both. Barrier Serum is made for the appearance of flaking and redness, whether that's flakes on your scalp or redness and scaling on your face. It works on the shared cause underneath, the excess oil and microbiome imbalance that drive both, rather than masking one symptom.

Is it suitable for color-treated hair?

Yes. It's a water-based, leave-on serum you apply to the scalp, with no sulfates or peroxides, so it's gentle on color.

Can men and women both use it?

Yes. The biology behind flaking, itching, and an oily, imbalanced scalp is the same regardless of gender, and so is the formula. Men and women use it on the scalp, hairline, beard area, and face, anywhere skin flakes or feels irritated.
